The Name and the Measure

Tao Te Ching Chapter 2: “When we all see some things as beautiful, we make other things ugly. When we all see some things as good, we make other things bad.”

Naming brings a mutually arising pair into being, yet we rarely stop at difference alone: one side quietly becomes the measure by which the other is judged and pushed away.

The Way and the Name

Tao Te Ching Chapter 1: “The Way that can be spoken is not the eternal Way. The name that can be named is not the eternal name.”

Our lived experience keeps changing, yet the forms and names we give it often remain, asking permanence of what was never meant to hold still.

What Remains True When Life Changes

In midlife and beyond, change rarely arrives alone. It often comes wearing a judgment we inherited and mistake for our own. Between what is really happening within and what it is supposed to mean, something remains: felt truth, intimate and immediate, before the story.

When Change Shakes What Gives Life Meaning

Not every change shakes us the same way. Some reach deeply into the invisible architecture through which we know who we are and make sense of our lives. What we struggle with is rarely the change alone, but the shaken structure of familiar meaning beneath it.

Ways of Knowing Our Energy

We often know our energy by how much we have. But quantity is only one way of knowing it. Energy can also be felt as living movement within us, experienced as relational force with the world, and understood through qi. These different doorways can lead us to a deeper relationship with our energy in midlife and beyond.
